In this session, a physician medical director will discuss this system and the implications of different cannabinoid receptors in relation to the different effects. A clinical pharmacist will then discuss the pharmacology of different components of the cannabis plant. These presenters will then engage in a discussion regarding the potential, as well as the limitations, of utilizing cannabis in the realm of behavioral care. Particular focus will be placed on the use of cannabis as a replacement for opioids or even as a way to assist weaning from opioids, inherent risks in this use and the potential for addiction to cannabis.

Session attendees will be able to:

  • Define the endocannabinoid system
  • Understand the role of receptors and the effects produced by cannabis and its various components
  • Apprehend the potential benefits of cannabis, as well as its risks and limitations
